CLINTON, N.Y. – Three different players scored as the Amherst College men's ice hockey team notched a 3-1 victory over NESCAC foe Hamilton College in Saturday evening's season opener in Clinton, N.Y.
With the win, Amherst begins its season 1-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 in the NESCAC, while Hamilton begins its campaign 0-1-0 on the season, 0-1-0 in NESCAC action.
The Jeffs extended their lead to 2-0 when senior co-captain Jake Turrin scored following a feed from Thomas Lindstrom '18 3:20 into the third frame. Seven minutes later, Xavier Louis Reed capitalized on a dish from White to set the score at 3-1 with 9:34 left to play in the game.
Hamilton pulled one back when Kenny Matheson scored on a power play. Robbie Murden and Conor Lamberti assisted on the goal which came at the 16:38 mark.
Hamilton held a 14-8 advantage in shots on goal in the first period and a 32-29 edge for the contest. Dave Cunningham '16 made 14 saves in the first period and finished with 31 in the winning effort. Zach Arnold turned away 26 shots for the Continentals, with 11 of those coming in the second frame.
Amherst was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Hamilton was 1-for-5.
Amherst returns to action on Friday, Nov. 21 at Trinity College. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
