WAYLAND, Mass. -- After a promising day one in contention for the top spot at the 2019 NESCAC Qualifier, Amherst men's golf dropped to sixth place on the final day to miss the top-four cut for the spring championship on Sunday afternoon at Sandy Burr Country Club.
The Mammoths, who shot +7 (295) combined through the opening 18 holes, added 20 strokes to their original score to finish +34 (610) on the weekend.
Cole Vissicchio only added two strokes to his day one card, shooting 78 on day two which was good for a 27th place finish.
Nicholas Sullivan '20 contributed an 81 to round out the scoring for the Mammoths while Jeffrey Herr '20 shot +17 (161).
Williams narrowly ran away with the first place finish and earned the right to host the spring championship after edging second place finisher, Tufts, by two strokes. Middlebury sat in front of Amherst by six strokes for fifth place while Trinity (Conn.) notched fourth place with 597 (+21). The top four teams were all within 11 strokes of each other.
