Lonnquist Paces Mammoths in Second Place Opening Round at NESCAC Qualifier

WAYLAND, Mass. -- Amherst men's golf continued their impressive fall slate shooting a +7 (295) in the opening round of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Qualifier, with Will Lonnquist '20 shooting an even par (72) to pace the Mammoths in their second place card Saturday afternoon at Sandy Burr Country Club.

Lonnquist, Amherst's top golfer at two tournaments already this fall, sits tied for fourth in the tournament with fellow Mammoth Cameron Clark '20 sitting one stroke behind with a +1 (73) in the opening round.

Nick Sullivan '20 adds to the consistency with a 74 (+2) round, tying him for ninth overall while Cole Vissicchio '20 added a 76 (+4).

Amherst sits four strokes back from Williams who currently lead the field after two Ephs clinched the top two spots, contributing to their 291 (+3) card.

The Mammoths will roll into the final round of the qualifier tomorrow, with their mind set on a top-four finish to return to the spring championship.

Jeffrey Herr '20 will be the first golfer in Purple & White to leave the club house, teeing off at 11:30 AM while Cole Vissichio follows behind him at 11:39 AM with his grouping. Sullivan, Clark, and Lonnquist follow behind them in nine minute increments, respectively.
