NEWINGTON, Conn. -- Senior Will Lonnquist '20 of Amherst men's golf paced the Mammoths in their opening tournament of the 2019 fall competition, shooting a 71 through the first 18 holes in the Detrick Invitational at Indian Hill Country Club Saturday afternoon.
The 2019 second team All-NESCAC honoree sits tied for second overall in the tournament with Trinity College junior Ricardo Paes Leme. Jackson Rothwell of Babson led the field with a card of 70.
Cameron Clark '20 recorded the second highest score for the Mammoths with a 74 while Brian Aslanian '22 sat two strokes behind Clark with a 76. Erik Zetterstrom '22 rounded out the scoring with a 79 on the day, placing him tied for 25th overall.
The Mammoths nestled into the fourth spot with a combined score of 300, which is 12 shots back from the front runners, Babson. Trinity sits in second with a 296 while third place Tufts is only one stroke ahead of the Purple & White.
Amherst returns to the course tomorrow for day two of the Invitational before setting their sights on the Duke Nelson Invitational next weekend.
