NEW HADLEY, Mass. – In the final round of their 2018-19 campaign, the Amherst men's golf team tied for first place with Williams at six apiece, while also taking down Wesleyan 12-0 on Tuesday at the Ledge Golf Club in the Little Three Championships.
The tournament consisted of match play with foursomes (alternate shot) in the morning and singles matches in the afternoon for a total of 36 holes of golf.
In the morning grouping, Amherst blanked Wesleyan 4-0 with Nick Sullivan '20 and Cole Vissicchio '20 leading the way while also stealing one point from Williams as they were up three holes with two remaining against (Williams Conyers and Wyatt Khosrowshahi). The duo also took down Walker Harris and Christopher White of Wesleyan (4&3).
Nicholas Kumamoto '20 and Jack Klein '20 posted a demanding triumph over Cardinals Saadia Naeem and Bryan Chong when they were up eight with six holes left. Cameron Clark '20 and Will Lonnquist '20 also clinched a strong win over the Wesleyan golfers after going up seven holes with six left against Eli Epstein-Lubow and Noah Cate.
Down 3-1 heading into the singles action against Williams, the Mammoths claimed five wins to guide them towards their neutral decision. Sullivan and Burlison notched key wins against Khosrowshahi and Jake Foehl, respectively, after the Mammoths secured the win on the final hole. Klein won two up over Will Beischer while Kumamoto (5&4) and Herr (3&1) ended their clashes against the Ephs early.
All eight golfers in the purple and white thwarted the Cardinals in their singles encounter with each match finishing prior to the final two holes.
