SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Nicholas Kumamoto '20 led the Amherst men's golf team after posting a combined score of 148 after two days to help the Mammoths finish second at the Elms Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Ledges Golf Club.
Kumamoto tied for third overall in the tournament when he added two strokes to his day one score for an impressive 75 on day two. Will Lonnquist '20 finished five strokes behind Kumamoto as he posted a 153, tying him for 10th on the weekend. Nicholas Sullivan '20 cut two strokes off his day one score of 79 to post a 156 after 36 holes. Jack Burlison '19 was the last Mammoth to contribute as he marked a 159 (80, 79) after two days of competition.
Cameron Clark '20 was the fifth golfer to compete for Amherst as he carded a day one score of 86, before knocking four strokes off on the final day for an 82 (168).
Amherst only finished eight strokes behind the winner, Husson University, who carded a 299 on day one, and a 309 on day two for a combined 608 on the tournament. Western New England placed third behind the Purple and White, by four strokes, after posting a collective score of 620.
Husson Universities Gavin Dugas was the outright leader of the tournament when he marked a 72 on day one, and a 71 (-1) on day two for a combined 143 after two days.
The Mammoths concluded the tournament with four golfers in the top-25.
With today's second place finish, the Amherst men's golf team concludes the fall portion of their schedule.
