MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. – Amherst's men's golf team placed sixth in the NESCAC Qualifier at Lyman Orchards Golf Course by posting a combined score of 615 through two days of competition.
Cameron Clark '20 led the way for the Mammoths as he shot a 74 on day one, then a 75 on the second round to total his weekend at 149.
While the Mammoths did not earn one of the top four spots to qualify in next spring's NESCAC Championship, Clark's score qualified him to play in the title for a shot at the individual championship.
Will Lonnquist '20 and Nicholas Kumamoto '20 carded identical scores on both days of competition. The first round they marked an 82, following that up today with a 74 for a combined score of 156 over the two days. Jack Burlison '19 was the last Mammoth to add to the scorecard as he sat one stroke behind Lonnquist and Kumamoto at a combined 157 (79, 78).
Amherst was sitting in sixth place as they entered today and carded a combined score of 314 on the first day. They knocked 13 strokes off that score for a day two result of 301. It proved to be not enough as the Mammoths sat 19 strokes behind Williams College who finished fifth in the tournament. Middlebury College went on to win the NESCAC Qualifier as they carded a combined 587 over the weekend.
