MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Men's golf showed ability in the Duke Nelson Invitational as they shot a day one score of 296 and a day two score of 300 for a combined mark of 596 to finish 6th out of 22 teams over the weekend at Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
The Mammoths opened day one tied for fourth place with Trinity College and only sitting 5 strokes behind the leader, New York University. Junior Nicholas Kumamoto '20 led Amherst on that first day by shooting even par (71). Jack Burlison '19 sat three strokes behind Kumamoto by carding a 74 (+3).
The second day of competition found the Mammoths dropping two spots in the rankings by shooting a 300, placing them at 6th for the weekend. Johnson and Wales University matched Amherst's 300 on day two but placed fifth because of one stroke from the first day.
Kumamoto finished with a 146 total for the weekend after posting a 75 (+4) on day two. Will Lonnquist '20 was the lead Mammoth for the second day as he finished one over par (72) on the day to put him at 147 total. Jeffrey Herr was the fourth Mammoth as he notched a combined score of 153 for both days.
The Amherst men's golf team returns to action next weekend as they travel to the Williams College Invitational.
