Men’s Golf Opens Season with Third Place Finish at Bill Detrick Invitational

NEWINGTON, Conn. – Led by Will Lonnquist '20, the Amherst College men's golf team moved up a spot on day two of competition to open the 2018 season with a third place finish at the Bill Detrick Invitational at Indian Hill Country Club this past weekend.

Shooting back-to-back team cards of 304, the Mammoths finished +32 (608) on the weekend to edge fourth place finisher Tufts by three strokes. Host Trinity College took the team title with a card of 572, while Babson placed second with a 596 mark.

Finishing two-over-par on day two, Lonnquist (73-74-147) finished tied for sixth overall in the 63 golfer field, while Jeffrey Herr '20 cut one stroke off his day one performance to finish +9 and earn 16th place.

Jack Burlison '19 and Nicholas Kumamoto '20 each shot back-to-back 77's to tie for 18th overall.

Cameron Clark '20 and Jack Klein '20 round out Amherst's traveling roster, with Clark posting an 82-80-162 mark to take 37th and Klein carding a 81-87-168 to place tied for 51st.

The Mammoths return to action next weekend when they head to Middlebury College for the two-day Duke Nelson Invitational beginning on Saturday, Sept. 15.
