Mammoths Sit in Fourth after Day 1 at Detrick Invitational

NEWINGTON, Conn. -- In the first tournament of the 2018 season, the Amherst College men's golf team is in fourth place after day one of the Detrick Invitational.

The tournament, hosted by Trinity College, is being played at Indian Hill Country Club, and features a nine-team field, including the host Bantams, who lead Babson College by 12 strokes and Tufts University by 13.

The Mammoths sit three shots back of the Jumbos, led by a one-over-par 73 from Will Lonnquist '20, who is currently tied for fourth overall out of the 63 golfers competing.

Three other Mammoths, Jack Burlison '19, Jeffery Herr '20 and Nicholas Kumamoto '20, all carded 77's on Saturday, placing them in a tie for 20th.

Jack Klein '20 shot an 81 and sits among others in 37th place, while Cameron Clark '20 is a shot behind him, tied for 44th.

The Mammoths will be back on the course today for the final day of the tournament as they look to chase down two other teams into the top three.
