AMHERST, Mass. – Junior guard Garrett Day of Amherst College men's basketball was named to the 2019-20 All-NESCAC First Team after an impressive third-year campaign that saw the Mammoths advance to the NESCAC semifinals.
All-NESCAC First and Second Team honorees are voted on by the conference's coaching staffs.
Day, who appeared in all 26 contests and started the final eight games, captures his first All-Conference selection after averaging 14.5 points per game. Bringing his best basketball to the court in league play, the junior stepped up his production to average 17.5 PPG against NESCAC foes (seventh in the NESCAC) behind the strength of 47.1% shooting from the floor and an astounding 45.5% from three-point range (sixth in the NESCAC). Day's 3.5 three-point field goals per game in league play ranked third overall.
Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pa., the guard also posted 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 30.2 minutes per NESCAC contest.
Outside of conference action, Day propelled Amherst to key wins versus Springfield College and Baruch, scoring 14 points (5-7 FG, 2-4 3PT) and 20 points (6-9 FG, 6-9 3PT), respectively.
Day appeared in the starting five for the first time in 2019-2020 in a win over Salem State and went on an incredible run in the final eight games of the winter, highlighted by impressive performances in victories over Wesleyan (29 points), Bowdoin (25 points), and Williams (24 points) - netting five or more treys in each contest. Over those eight games, Day averaged nearly 21 points on 46% shooting from beyond the arc and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against Williams.
Closing out the year with a 7-3 NESCAC mark, the Mammoths secured the third-seed in the NESCAC tournament and went on to defeat archrival Williams College in the Quarterfinals.
