AMHERST, Mass. – Eric Sellew '20 has been selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Sellew was the catalyst for an Amherst men's basketball team that won three big games this week. The No. 11 Mammoths defeated Wesleyan at home for the first time in eight outings, then went on the road and beat No. 10 Williams and Middlebury.
Sellew scored 19 points and collected two steals in wins over both Wesleyan and Middlebury. Over the course of the week, he averaged 16 points per game while shooting 54% from the floor. Sellew was 5-7 (71.4%) in Amherst's win at Williams. He also averaged nearly seven rebounds and more than two assists, 1.3 steals and one block per game.
The Concord, Mass. Native was also 7-8 at the free-throw line and 3-6 from three-point land.
In his junior season, Sellew is averaging a career high 11.8 points per game and is shooting 52.7% from the floor, also a personal best. He has scored in double-figures 15 times and has four double-doubles.
The Mammoths (20-3,7-2 NESCAC) are set to play at Hamilton tomorrow evening and can secure the top seed in the NESCAC tournament with a victory. Amherst will definitely host a quarterfinals matchup on Saturday, February 16th at LeFrak Gymnasium. Stay tuned for game time and matchup details.
