AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College led Saturday's Ken Wright '52 Invitational men's basketball championship game Kean College at LeFrak Gymnasium by 14 points at halftime.
The Mammoths then proceeded to make eleven three-pointers in the second half and blow open the game on their way to a 101-52 victory and the 2018 Ken Wright '52 Invitational title.
Tournament MVP Grant Robinson dished out a game-high six assists to go with six points, three rebounds a block and a steal.
Eric Sellew '20 scored nine points and collected six rebounds and was also named to the All-Tournament team.
The Mammoths shot 23-35 (65.7%) from the floor and 11-16 (68.8%) from behind the three-point line in the second half. Their final shooting percentage from the field was 53.6%, making the second straight day in which they have been above the 50% shooting mark.
Micah Kerr and Jared Latane scored 12 points apiece for Kean (1-2), with Kerr being selected to the All-Tournament team. Fellow All-Tournament selection Jailen Jamison had six rebounds, five points, three assists and a steal.
The Amherst lead reached double-digits with just under six minutes to go in the first half, when Garrett Day '21 hit his second three-pointer of the afternoon, on his way to a 3-5 long-range shooting day.
Joe Schneider scored the next seven straight points, including a layup, a three-point play, and a tip-in off a floated pass by Josh Chery '20 and the Mammoths took a 40-26 lead into the halftime locker room.
Robinson found the open player on three straight possessions in the opening five minutes of the second half, and thre three-point shooting barrage began. Dylan Groff '20 and Devonn Allen '22 each went 3-4 from long range, with Groff leading the team with 12 points when the dust settled.
Schneider ended the night with 11 points while Fru Che '21 had ten points, four assists and seven rebounds.
Griffin Gerwig '20 was perfect from the floor (2-2) and the line (2-2) for a seven-point performance.
Amherst (2-0) has one more home game before the Thanksgiving break, a 5:30 PM contest next Tuesday against Westfield State.
