Amherst Gets Back on Track with Big Win over Lasers

NEWTON, Mass. -- The No. 21 Amherst College men's basketball team bounced back from their first loss of the year with an 89-62 victory over Lasell College in a non-conference affair on Saturday afternoon at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Amherst improves to 6-1 on the year, while the Lasers close out the semester at 2-7.

Grant Robinson '21 recorded a game-high 19 points to accompany five assists. Tim McCarthy '21 tossed in 11 points, while Tommy Mobley '19, playing just a few miles away from home, scored 13 points off the bench for the Mammoths.

Amherst shot 53.7 percent from the floor, and out-rebounded the Lasers 43-34.

Stefan Masciarelli led the Lasers with 14 points to go along with his two assists and three rebounds.

Amherst jumped out to an early lead, going on a 10-0 run in the first 2:39, and never looked back. The Mammoths continued to surge in the first half, shooting 63% from the floor and hitting 9 three-pointers, taking a 55-30 lead into the break.

Lasell would slow down Amherst in the second half, keeping the Mammoth to only 34 points, but they could not create enough offense to overcome the deficit.

Off the bench, Lasell received double-digit scoring from reshman Liam Jacobs and junior Brandon Villa (Jersey City, N.J.), who contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.

The Lasers will look to turn things around in 2018 when they return to the court in Paxton, Mass on January 3rd to open up conference play at Anna Maria.

Amherst returns to action on Tuesday, December 12th when they host Springfield at 7:00p.m.
