McCarthy was named First Team All-NESCAC for the first time in his collegiate career after averaging 14.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game during conference action in 2016-17. McCarthy scored in double figures in nine of 10 conference games during the season, including a high of 19 points on three occasions. He also picked up double digit rebounds four times including 14 in a crucial win over Tufts University. McCarthy, who shot 46.3% field and 32.2% from beyond-the-arc against league foe this season, became the 29th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Dawson also secured his first all-league honor and was named Second Team All-NESCAC. Dawson averaged a team-high 19.7 points per game against conference competition and became the 30th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point benchmark. Dawson shot 38.8% from the floor and 31% from three-point range during Amherst's conference slate. Dawson scored in double figures in nine of 10 NESCAC games this season including 30 points in a 86-75 win over Hamilton College, while twice netting 27 points.
McCarthy, Dawson and the rest of the Amherst men's basketball team return to action in the NCAA Division III Championship First Round Friday, March 3 against Keene State College at 5:30 p.m. at pod host Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.
