AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College junior men's basketball player Jayde Dawson was named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III Men's National Player of the Week as announced by the organization, Tuesday.
Dawson, who was also named the NESCAC Player of the Week, helped No. 1 Amherst to a 3-0 week that included a 76-58 win over Brandeis, a phenomenal, 99-97 double overtime win over No. 2 Babson, and a 92-68 triumph over Lasell.
Dawson was electric during all three victories, netting a total of 86 points (28.7 ppg), grabbed 13 boards, handed out five assists, notched four steals and blocked two shots.
Dawson finished with a game-high 20 points in the Purple & White's win over Brandeis, scored 32 points in the win over Babson, and went off for a collegiate career-high 34 points against Lasell.
In Amherst's double overtime thriller, Dawson provided heroics in the first period of extra time as he powered into the lane with less than 30 seconds to play to knot the game at 91-91 to force a second frame of extra time. With just one second left in the second overtime and the score tied at 97-97, he once again found space in the lane and finished with a timely layup as time expired to lift the Purple & White to the thrilling victory.
Against Lasell, Dawson canned six three-pointers, was 12-for-24 shooting from floor, and 6-for-12 from beyond-the-arc en route to his game-best 34 points.
