HADLEY, Mass. - Amherst College junior guard Jayde Dawson was named the NESCAC Player of the Week in men's basketball as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Dawson was superb in Amherst's 3-0 week netting a total of 86 points, averaging 28.7 points per game, in addition to hauling 13 rebounds, dishing out five assists, recording four steals and blocking two shots.
Dawson helped Amherst stake a 76-58 win over Brandeis on Tuesday afternoon, before pouring in a collegiate career-high 32 points in a sensational, 99-97 double overtime thriller against No. 2 Babson. In the first period of overtime, Dawson powered into the lane with less than 30 seconds to play to knot the game at 91-91 to force a second frame of extra time. With just one second left in the second overtime and the score tied at 97-97, he once again found space in the lane and finished with a terrific layup as time expired to lift the Purple & White to the thrilling victory.
In Saturday's tilt against Lasell, Dawson followed his stellar performance against the Beavers with another collegiate career-best effort - this time netting a game-high 34 points - as top-ranked Amherst capped its five-game home stand with a 92-68 win over the Lasers. Dawson canned six three-pointers, was 12-for-24 shooting from floor, and 6-for-12 from beyond-the-arc in the win.
This is Dawson's first NESCAC weekly award of the season. The Purple & White return to action, Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Springfield College at 7 p.m.
