GILBERT, Ariz. — Senior defender Kendall Codey of the Amherst College field hockey team has been named to the 2018 Longstreth / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-American Second Team, as announced by the organization Tuesday. Codey's selection marks the 13th consecutive year Amherst has placed a player on the All-America squads.
A total of 48 student-athletes representing 35 different schools were selected to the 2018 All-America teams, with the three squads consisting of 35 first-time honorees, 10 second-time honorees and three third-time honorees. Including Codey, 11 NESCAC student-athletes landed an All-America nod.
Her first All-America selection, Codey garners Second Team All-America accolades after racking up First Team All-NESCAC and First Team New England West Region honors following a sensational senior campaign that saw her finish second on the Mammoths in both goals and points.
An excellent two-way player, Codey registered four multi-goal games for Amherst en route to tallying 10 scores, including two game-winners, and an assist for a total of 21 points in 16 starts. Finishing the year tied for 11th and 15th in the NESCAC in goals and points, respectively, the Summit, N.J. native was one of just two defenders to land inside the top-20 in either category. A shutdown defender, Codey was crucial to a defensive unit that logged a 2.04 goals against average while also being a key component of Amherst's penalty corner game.
Codey finishes her career donning the Purple & White with six defensive saves, 18 goals and nine assists for 45 points in 65 contests (61 starts).
