HADLEY, Mass. – Seniors Kendall Codey and Shannon Tierney of the Amherst College field hockey team have been selected to the All-NESCAC First Team for their standout performances on the field this season.
A Second Team All-Conference honoree a season ago, Codey has proven to be a shutdown defender while also excelling up front as a key component of Amherst's penalty corner game on her way to raking in First Team accolades. Second on the team in goals and points, the Summit, N.J. native buried 10 scores, including two game-winners, on the year to tie for 10th in the NESCAC and added an assist for 21 total points (T-12 NESCAC) in 16 starts for the Mammoths. She was also crucial to a defensive unit that logged a 2.04 goals against average.
The first All-NESCAC selection of her career, Tierney lands a well deserved spot on the First Team after an impressive collegiate career that was capped off by a stellar senior season. For the third time in as many years, Tierney started all 16 games for Amherst, netting one goal and three assists for five points while solidifying herself as a key part of all three phases of the Mammoths' play and as one of the conference's most relentless and dependable midfielders.
The Mammoths concluded the 2018 season with a 10-6 overall record and a 5-5 mark in conference play to earn the No. 7 seed in the league tournament.
