Okoronkwo’s Second Straight 100-Yard Games Nets NESCAC Honors

AMHERST, Mass. – For the second straight week, Amherst College junior running back Biafra Okoronkwo rushed for more than 100 yards, and this week he was named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

In a 33-3 win for the Mammoths over Wesleyan University, Okoronkwo rushed for 119 yards on 18 carries, an average of 6.6 yards per attempt.

The tailback from Towson, Maryland found the end zone twice in the opening half to give Amherst a 19-3 lead. He converted from 15 yards out with 8:00 left in the first quarter, and then helped Amherst take advantage of a Cardinals turnover when he ran the ball in from seven yards late in the half.

In his last two games, Okoronkwo has averaged 9.2 yards per attempt and scored three times. He has increased his carries per game in each of the six contests this year, and is averaging 83.5 yards per game over the course of the season.

Amherst (6-0) will host Tufts (5-1) this Saturday at 1:00 PM at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium in another important NESCAC game.
