HADLEY, Mass. – Andrew Yamin '19 of the Amherst College football team was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar performance during the team's 21-17 come-from-behind victory over Little Three rival Wesleyan Saturday afternoon to move the Mammoths in to a tie for second in the NESCAC.
The junior buck played a pivotal role in the Mammoths' big win on Homecoming Weekend, as he notched 11 tackles, including eight solo, and a whopping five sacks to push the Cardinals back 30 total yards. Opening the contest strong for Amherst, Yamin sacked the Wesleyan QB on their first offensive play of the matchup to set the tone early for the defense.
Through the first six games of the season, the Cheshire, Conn. native ranks first in the NESCAC in sacks with 10.5, and has chipped in 35 tackles (5.8 tackles per game) and two forced fumbles.
The Mammoths return to action Saturday, Oct. 28 when they travel to Tufts (4-2) for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
