Baseball Downed by Trinity in Non-Conference Affair

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Amherst College suffered a 10-5 loss to host Trinity College in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday evening at DiBenedetto Stadium.

Amherst (14-11) will return home for a 3:30 pm game against Springfield on Thursday at Memorial Field.

Stephen Burke '21 had three hits and Kyler Kopacz '21 was 2-3 with two runs scored in the loss.

The Mammoths scored four runs in the fourth inning to cut their deficit to one run after Trinity took a 5-0 lead through three innings. They would stay a run down after scratching across one more in the sixth to offset the Bantams (24-5), who scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth.

Trinity, led by a 3-5 day out of catcher Alex Rodriguez, plated four more in the eighth to put the game out of reach, with Rodriguez singled home a pair to end the scoring.

Amherst plated four runs on three hits and an error in the top of the fourth. Severino Simeone '20 led off with a walk and Nick Nardone '19 and Kopacz each followed with singles, the later of which scored Simeone.

Kai Terada-Herzer '21 plated Nardone with a single, and eventually scored on an error, while Kopacz came in to score on an RBI groundout by Daniel Qin '22.

Qin had two RBI in the game, both on identical plays, as Qin grounded out to second again in the sixth to score Kopacz and make it a 6-5 game afte Mack Lauder had doubled home Rodriguez in the Trinity half of the fifth.

Andrew Ferrero '19 fell to 1-3 on the season, giving up just two earned runs over three innings of work. Ferrero allowed three hits and struck out two.

Carson Glazier '20 struck out six batters in four innings of relief, allowing just one run on three hits.
