AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College baseball senior Andrew Ferrero has been named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Pitcher of the Week, making him the second Mammoth baseball player to be recognized by the conference this year.
Ferrero spun a complete game shutout in Amherst's April 6th win over Williams to earn his first victory of the year on the hill. The senior righty struck out six and gave up just four hits over seven complete innings as the Mammoths opened their doubleheader sweep with a 7-0 win over the Ephs.
Through 20 innings pitched this year, Ferrero has compiled an earned run average of 1.35. H ehas struck out 12 batters, averaging 5.40 strikeouts per game.
The senior righty has a career ERA of 3.10 with nine career victories and 82 strikeouts.
Earlier this year, sophomore outfielder Joe Palmo was named NESCAC Player of the Week after hitting .455 during the team's spring break trip to Florida.
The Mammoths are home this Wednesday when they host Elms at 3:30 PM before returning to NESCAC play with a weekend series at Hamilton.
