HADLEY, Mass. – Junior third baseman Nick Nardone hit two home runs this weekend, and on Monday afternoon he was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) baseball Player of the Week.
Nardone went deep in both ends of a doubleheader with Hamilton as the Mammoths opened NESCAC play with two wins against the Continentals.
In the NESCAC series, Nardone went 4-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs. His solo shot in the third inning of Game 1 against Hamilton put Amherst ahead 3-0. The Mammoths would take a 4-0 lead before using a single by Joe Palmo '21 in extra innings to win 5-4.
In Game Two, another wild affair, that Amherst won 10-9, Nardone singled home the first run to tie the game in the bottom of the first, added a sacrifice fly in the second to re-tie the game at five, and then put Amherst ahead with a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth.
Nardone drove in six runs in three games while batting .500 (4- for-8) during the week, in which he slugged 1.25.
Amherst is on the midst of a six-game win streak, pushing their record to 9-5. The Mammoths have a road game at Mitchell this Wednesday afternoon before a home and home series against rivals Williams College, starting with a home game on Friday at 4:00 PM.
