AMHERST, Mass. – Junior outfielder Ryan Hardin of the Amherst College baseball team has been selected to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, as recently announced by the organization.
Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, the Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic regions spanning across the United State and Canada. In order to be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 and have significant athletic credentials.
A Classics major, Hardin leads the 11 First-Team honorees from District 1 (Mass., Maine, N.H., Vt.) with a stellar 3.96 cumulative GPA and is the first Mammoth baseball student-athlete to earn Academic All-District praise since the 2014 season when Taiki Kasuga '14 and Dylan Driscoll '14 captured the accolade.
Outside of the classroom, the Riverside, Conn. was a constant in the Amherst lineup, appearing in 35 games and recording 35 hits to land inside of the top-5 on the Purple & White in batting average (.327) and on base percentage (.397). A well-rounded player, Hardin also stole 12 bases this spring to rank second on Amherst and 11th in the NESCAC in addition to posting a solid .976 fielding percentage.
A First Team selection, Hardin will automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with the All-America First, Second and Third team being selected later this month.
