  • Amherst’s Baseball Playbook Finds its Way to Uganda

    The Amherst College baseball program has many ties internationally. Last summer, the team traveled to Japan to play against Doshisha University, while some Jeffs have played summer baseball in China and Europe. Others continue their playing career by playing abroad professionally, including Dylan Driscol’14, who is currently pitching for the Stockholm Monarchs in Sweden.

    For the second consecutive season, Mike Odenwaelder ’16 of the Amherst College baseball team earned highest praise by the conference coaches as he was named the 2015 NESCAC Baseball Player of the Year, as announced Wednesday. Amherst has now claimed four of the past five Player of the Year honors, as Odenwaelder once again joined Bob Cook ’13 (2012) and Mike Samela ’12 (2011) as the third Jeff to win the award.

    Moving one step closer to defending its NESCAC baseball title, Wesleyan University (27-8) broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, then rode the arm of starting pitcher junior Gavin Pittore through the bottom of the ninth as Pittore posted his seventh consecutive complete game in a 4-2 victory over Amherst College (24-12) in the winner's bracket game of the NESCAC tournament at Holman Stadium.
