LAKELAND, Fla. – Bob Cook '13 and Brendon Hardin '15 each went 4-for-4 and Dylan Driscoll '14 pitched six strong innings to lead the Amherst College baseball team during a 16-2 win over Oglethorpe on Monday.
The Lord Jeffs improve to 3-1 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational and will return to action tomorrow against nationally-ranked Western New England University.
Cook got Amherst on the board when he delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second inning, igniting a six-run rally that proved to be more than enough for Driscoll. The Jeffs would add four runs in the third inning and three in each of the fourth and fifth frames, while Oglethorpe scored both of its runs in the top of the fifth.
Driscoll picked up his first win of the season by allowing only four hits in six innings, as he walked only one batter and did not allow an earned run. Sophomore Eric Kotin struck out the side during a perfect seventh inning.
Cook and Hardin each scored four runs to go along with their four-hit performances, with Hardin driving in a pair of runs and hitting a double. Alex Hero '14 (3-for-4) scored two runs and drove in two others, while Taiki Kasuga '14 (2-for-3) drove in six with a pair of three-run doubles.
Also standing out at the plate was first-year Eric West, who went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and three runs scored. Kevin Heller '12 was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run double.
