CLINTON, NY – The Amherst College baseball team picked up a pair of convincing wins over NESCAC West rival Hamilton College to increase its winning streak to six games and improve its record to 18-12 (9-3 NESCAC West). The Lord Jeffs earned a 17-6 victory in the first game before winning 16-4 in the nightcap.
Sophomore Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA) went 3-for-5 with his sixth double and a three-run homer in Amherst's 17-6 win in game one. He had three hits, including a double and his fifth home run this year, as the Lord Jeffs won the nine-inning nightcap 16-4. Powers combined for 10 RBIs in the two games.
The Jeffs led 8-3 after four innings in the opener, but broke the game wide open with a seven-run fifth. First-year Will Lawton (Newton, MA) was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs.
Sophomore Angus Schaller (Leucadia, CA) was a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the nightcap. Junior Neal Allar (Floyds Knobs, IN) recorded three hits, including a double, scored three runs and drove in three. Amherst led 7-0 and 14-1, as the Jeffs pounded out 20 hits. Senior Nick Kehoe (Washington Depot, CT) allowed one earned run on two hits in six innings. Kehoe walked six and struck out seven.
John Porges led Hamilton's offense in the second game as he went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Porges became the program's all-time leader in homers with 13. The Continentals' season is complete.
The Jeffs close out their regular season Sunday with a non-conference game against Bentley College at 1 p.m.
