April 23, 2007

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Amherst College senior designated hitter Jared Banner (Brooklyn, NY) went 4-for-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Lord Jeffs (12-9) to a 22-7 victory over host Springfield College (9-18) this afternoon in non-conference action at Berry-Allen Field.

Amherst College sophomore lefty Ryan Platzbecker (Westlake, OH) improved his record to 3-0 on the season, tossing seven innings and allowing just five hits and one unearned run with seven strikeouts. Platzbecker was given a multitude of run support from the first inning on, as the Jeffs plated seven runners in the top half of the opening frame.

Amherst junior catcher Neal Allar (Floyds Knobs, IN) equaled Banner's production at the plate with a 4-for-6 performance of his own. In four hits, Allar added four scored runs and three RBIs. Sophomore third baseman Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA) added four RBIs in the tilt, collecting two hits in five at-bats with three runs scored. Also adding to the cause was junior outfielder Evan Bruno (Williamsburg, VA), who came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

For the Pride, senior leadoff man Chris Stack (Albany, NY) recorded a team-best two hits in his five at-bats on the afternoon. Seniors Doug Maier (Long Valley, NJ) and Josh Charpentier (Fairhaven, MA), playing in their final regular-season home games at Berry-Allen Field, each came off the bench to register two RBIs. First-year shortstop Joey Kropa (Cranford, NJ) came on in the game to go 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
