Allar's Two-Run Blast Seals Vladeck's 11-Inning Gem Over Williams, 5-3

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- Sophomore designated hitter Neal Allar (Floyds Knobs, IN) smashed a two-run homer in the top of the eleventh to give the Amherst College baseball team a 5-3 extra innings victory over archrival Williams College on Saturday afternoon 5-3. With the win, the Jeffs improve to 14-5-1 (6-0-1 NESCAC West) on the season, while the Ephs drop to 14-7 (1-3 NESCAC WEST).

Senior sensation Joe Vladeck (Washington, DC) was hot all night, going all 11 innings to earn his team-leading fourth win of the season and remain unbeaten. Vladeck only allowed five hits, two earned runs, and three walks while striking out a season-high 11 batters. Williams starter Dan Benz was solid, going 6.2 innings and allowing three earned runs while striking out six. Ryan Scannel was tagged with the loss, going 4.1 innings and giving up two earned runs.

Allar was dynamite at the plate all game long, going three-for-four with three RBI and two runs scored. Senior outfielder Andrew Green (Lexington, MA) and sophomore left fielder Nick Boehm (Shaker Heights, OH) were two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored each while senior shortstop Zach Schonberger (Rye, NY) and junior second baseman Mark Mazzone (Wilmette, IL) each picked up a pair of hits for the Jeffs.

Senior first baseman Dave Levinson (Chester Springs, PA) earned an 11th inning one-out walk before Allar stepped up and delivered the game-winning home run, and Vladeck took the ball for a one-two-three inning capped off with a strike out.

Williams shortstop Paul Morgan led the Ephs, going two-for-five with an RBI while Max Pinto was one-for-four with a run scored.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Williams in an afternoon doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
