FORT MYERS, FL – The Amherst College baseball team wrapped up its spring break session in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Sunday, posting its fifth straight victory, a 5-2 decision over Colby College. The Jeffs improved to 7-4 on the season, while Colby dropped its season opener.

Junior hurler Brian Donahue (Sudbury, MA) earned his first win of the season, surrendering just two runs on six hits in six innings of work. Senior Rob Anderson (Winnetka, IL) picked up his third save, tossing three innings of scoreless play.  Senior co-captain Zach Schonberger (Rye, NY) was 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Colby got out to a 2-0 edge in the top of the second, but Amherst battled back to tie it up at the bottom of the third, as junior Mark Mazzone (Wilmette, IL) knocked a double to score senior Andrew Green (Lexington, MA) and then was sent home by Schonberger at the end of the inning.  Amherst took the lead in the following inning as sophomore Neal Allar (Floyds Knobs, IN) crossed the plate on a Colby error, and the Jeffs stayed ahead for the remainder, holding Colby scoreless for the final seven innings.

Amherst returns to action in its home opener on Thursday, March 30, hosting Westfield State at 3 p.m.
