AMHERST, MA – Amherst College seniors Andrew Green (Lexington, MA) and Joe Vladeck (Washington, DC) were both named to theESPN The MagazineAcademic All-District 1 baseball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Green received first-team honors and proceeds to the Academic All-America ballot, while Vladeck was a second-team pick.
Green had an outstanding season at the plate, hitting an outstanding .411 with 46 hits, 30 runs scored, eight doubles, eight stolen bases and 14 RBI. He stands among the conference leaders in batting average and on-base percentage and was one of the toughest hitters in the NESCAC to strikeout, fanning just seven times in 128 trips to the plate. He finished seventh in the conference in hitting as a junior (.392) and picked up NESCAC All-Academic honors as well.
Vladeck posted a fantastic senior campaign as well, registering a flawless 7-0 mark on the hill and 1.55 ERA. He led the NESCAC in ERA, opposing batting average (.191), strikeouts (49) and wins and finished second in innings pitched (64). The 2005 NESCAC Pitcher of the Year, Vladeck earned NEIBA Division III All-New England, First-Team All-NESCAC and NESCAC All-Academic honors in his junior season. He finished 19th in the country in ERA (1.59) and led the conference in ERA, strikeouts (64), innings pitched (73.2) and wins (7).
Amherst finished its regular season at 22-9-1 overall and 8-3-1 narrowly missing its third straight trip to the NESCAC Tournament.
