FORT MYERS, FL – The Amherst College baseball team suffered its fourth narrow defeat of the early season on Wednesday, falling to non-conference foe Babson College in Ft. Myers, Fla., 10-9. Senior Andrew Green (Lexington, MA) gave an impressive performance at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored.
Junior fireballer Brian Donahue (Sudbury, MA) posted his second great pitching performance of the spring, tossing seven innings and giving up just two earned runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out four. Rookie Ben Goldfarb (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) and junior Nick Kehoe (Washington Depot, CT) surrendered three runs apiece in relief as Kehoe took the loss.
Senior Dave Levinson (Chester Park, PA) earned a trio of RBIs with a double, and classmate Zach Schonberger (Rye, NY) earned a pair of RBIs on two hits. Rookie Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA) went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored and fellow first-year Angus Schaller (Leucadia, CA) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Amherst returns to action Thursday at noon against Bethel University in Fort Myers, Fla.
