MANSFIELD, CT - Eastern Connecticut State University racked up its ninth straight win, 8-3, over the visiting Amherst College baseball team on Wednesday despite two hits each from Amherst outfielders Devin Haran (Basking Ridge, NJ) and Dave Siegle (Falmouth, ME). The host Warriors-ranked 24th in the nation according to the latest Division III poll-jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back, improving their record to 18-7 overall.
Meanwhile, the Jeffs-playing just their fourth game after finishing a 10-game swing in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday, March 25-fell to 1-3 since returning to New England and 7-7 overall.
ECSU sophomore starter Dave Meeker (Wakefield, RI) improved to 2-2 with his second straight win, scattering seven hits and one run over six innings, while senior closer Brian Gouin (Sprague, CT) pitched three hitless innings for his fifth save of the season. Freshmen Eugene Julien (Brockton, MA) and Dwight Wildman (Seymour, CT) sparked the Warrior offensive with their first collegiate home runs, both off Amherst junior starter Dave Krauser (Short Hills, NJ), who took the loss to fall to 1-4.
Amherst returns to action on Saturday for a NESCAC double header against visiting Colby College at Noon.
