AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Greg Berchelmann (St. Louis, MO) had 6 RBI on four hits as Amherst defeated North Adams State 14-2. The designated hitter drove in the second of three runs in the 1st inning before registering a three-run homer, his sixth of the season, in the 5th inning.
Amherst had a 4-1 lead when Brent Scorgie (Falmouth, MA) doubled in the top of the 4th for North Adams. Advancing to third on an error, the first-baseman came home for the Mohawks' first run an another Jeff defensive mistake. Senior Tri-Captain Rick Dupee (North Adams, MA) led off the 8th with a solo-home run, his third of the year.
Five Lord Jeffs had two or more hits a piece as Amherst levied 18 against three Mohawk pitchers. Centerfielder Dan Jin (Berkeley, CA) reached base six times and scored four runs, while rightfielder Mike Sullivan (Andover, MA) was 3-3 with two doubles and a triple for three RBI.
The Jeffs better their record to 20-4 as the No. 1 team in New England. North Adams falls to 9-18. The Jeffs next travel to Wesleyan for their fourth Little III matchup tomorrow.
