No. 4 Amherst Upsets No. 3 Brandeis, 4-1

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Dan Jin (Berkeley, CA) looped a long double into right field to score Mike Brendler (Swarthmore, PA) as Amherst came from behind for a 4-1 win. Brendler had advanced to 1st on a fielder's choice before coming home off the first of two Jin hits.

Brandeis had taken a 1-0 lead in the 4th when Adam Zoldak (Gardner, MA) doubled before being driven in on a sac-fly by Ryan Fitzgerald (South Hadley, MA). Though the Judges cranked out four of their six hits in the closing third of the game, Brandeis left the bases loaded in the 6th after an Amherst double-play and again in the 8th before Graham Callaghan (Burlington, CT) registered his lone strikeout of the game.

Jin scored again in the third off a Josh Carroll (Winchester, MA) double to give the Jeffs a 3-1 lead. Greg Berchelmann (St. Louis, MO) drove in Carroll for his team-leading 24th RBI for the 4-1 final.

Bill Mello (Burlington, MA) struck out six Jeff batters before retiring in the 8th.

Amherst betters its record to 14-3 as the No. 4 team in the region according to the New England College Baseball Coaches Poll. Brandeis drops its third straight game for a 13-6-1 record as the No. 3 team in New England.
