Wellness, Lifetime Fitness and Recreational opportunities are provided by the Department of Athletics and are open to all Amherst College students and members of the college community.  The program is flexible, robust, and designed to meet the needs and interests of individuals. There are a variety of offerings that provide fitness and well-being opportunities for the entire community. Recreational fitness opportunities are available based on facility hours and season.

Wellness & Fitness

Wellness & Fitness Classes are offered throughout each semester on a drop-in basis. These classes include but are not limited to Yoga, Tai Chi, Feldenkrais ATM, Pilates, PIYO and Zumba. Fall Classes start on Monday, September 11th...

Lifetime Sports:  Lifetime Sports classes are offered each semester in two sessions (5-6 weeks each). 


Unit 1 classes will begin on Monday September 17 and run through October 12, except for the Agility and High Intensity Interval Conditioning and Movement class.  This class will begin on Monday, September 10 and end on October 2.


*Agility and High Intensity Interval Conditioning and Movement - Learn agility and footwork drills followed by high intensity explosive movements and conditioning.   Classes will be held in the Middleton Gym on Monday and Tuesday 6:00am - 6:45am

*Indoor Cycling - Classes will be held in the Friends Room of Alumni Gym on Wednesday 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Beginning Swimming - Classes will be held in Pratt Pool on Tuesday and Thursday 8:00am - 8:50am

Fall Fitness - Classes will meet on Gooding Field on Tuesday, 7:00am and on the steps of Alumni Gym at 5:15pm

Running for Beginners - Classes wiil meet on the steps of Alumni Gym on Tuesday and Friday 12:00pm - 1:00pm

The recreational program, which includes skating, squash, swimming and tennis and is available to all members of the Amherst College community. These opportunities vary based on the season and specific facility hours.
