AMHERST SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF

 

Maria Rello joined the Sports Medicine staff at Amherst College in 1988 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and now serves as the Director of the Sports Medicine Program. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989 and a Master of Science degree in 1994 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her primary sport responsibilities are Field Hockey and Baseball. Mark Klingensmith joined the Sports Medicine staff at Amherst College in 1991 and was hired full-time as an Associate Athletic Trainer in 1995. He received a B.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training from Westfield State College in 1991. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has worked as a self-employed Personal Trainer since 1994. His primary sport responsibilities are Football and Men’s Lacrosse. Kathy Jekanowski joined the Sports Medicine staff at Amherst College in the fall of 2005 and now serves as an Associate Athletic Trainer.  She received her B.S. in Athletic Training from Westfield State College in 1996 and was a member of the Women's Basketball team. She earned her M.Ed. in Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College in 2002. Kathy has also worked as an Athletic Trainer in both the high school and clinic settings before arriving at Amherst.  Her primary sport responsibilities are Men's Soccer and Women's Ice Hockey. Matthew Cook joined the Sports Medicine staff at Amherst College in the fall of 2006. He comes to Amherst after serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for East Longmeadow High School for two years. He received a B.S. in Physical Education with an option in Athletic Training and an A.S. in Chemical Dependency from Keene State College in 2003. Evan Ostrowski joined the Sports Medicine staff at Amherst College in the fall of 2014. He received his B.S. in Athletic Training in 2012 and M.S. in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science in 2014 from Central Connecticut State University. Andrea Sulavik joined the Sports Medicine staff at Amherst College in the fall of 2016. She received her B.S. in Athletic Training from Grand Valley State University in 2013, and her M.S. in Human Performance from Lindenwood University in 2015. She previously worked as the athletic trainer at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, and as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Lindenwood. Christian Caban joined the athletic department in August 2017. He is the recipient of the 2017-2019 NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant. Chris will serve as the Assistant to the Director of Athletics and as an Athletic Trainer.
