AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College Athletics Department welcomes assistant coaches Melissa Paione and Cathleen Pruden to the Amherst swimming and diving coaching staff, ahead of the team's 2019-20 campaign.
Paione, who was brought on board in October, and Pruden, who was hired in August, will aim to lead the swimmers to another productive regular season and a strong showing in the NESCAC and NCAA Championships.
Paione joins Amherst Swim & Dive for the 2019-2020 season after earning her Ed.M. in Human Development at Boston University. Melissa spent two seasons as the assistant swim coach at Middlebury College where she coached one of the Panthers largest groups to qualify NCAA's. A fellow NESCAC swimmer, Paione graduated from Bates College in 2016 with a bachelors degree in psychology and a minor in public health and women and gender studies.
Paione is a previous school record holder, All-NESCAC selection, and NCAA individual qualifier. In the summer, she works as a coach at the Bates College Swim Camp coaching age-group swimmers from all over the New England area, leading daily pook workouts for ages 8-17.
Pruden begins her first year at Amherst and her fourth year in college coaching. She is a graduate student at Smith College, pursuing her Masters in Exercise and Sport Studies. She served as the Assistant Coach at Bowdoin College for three years, after graduating from Mount Holyoke College in 2016.
Prior to coaching, Pruden was a team captain and chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Mount Holyoke College. The Raleigh, N.C. native was also a four time All-American and two time NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year for the Lyons.
Amherst swimming and diving kicks off their 2019-20 tab on the road as they travel to Schenectady, New York to take on Union College on Saturday, November 16th.
