Kadine Johnson Joins Track & Field Coaching Staff

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Athletics Department is happy to announce the recent hiring of Kadine Johnson as an assistant coach for the men's and women's track & field programs.

Kadine comes to the Pioneer Valley boasting previous coaching experience at both the DI and DIII level, including stints at UMBC, the University of Texas-Pan and Oglethorpe University. Earning her Level 1 Coaching Certification, she has mentored five NCAA Division I conference champions and three regional qualifiers.

An excellent athlete in her own right, Kadine has competed for Jamaica in international competition, placing second overall at the 2011 World Championship trials and just narrowly missing out on an Olympic qualifying mark en route to rising to the rank of the national team's No. 3 hammer thrower.

A 2011 graduate of the University at Albany with a bachelor's degree in Psychology, Kadine set Great Dane program records in the hammer throw (57.53 meters) and the weight throw (18.02 meters) before going on to earn a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Baltimore (2013) and a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University (2018).

Outside of athletics, Kadine has worked as a mental health specialist and para educator for the New Horizon Counseling Agency and Brookwood High School.
