AMHERST, Mass. – As part of NCAA's annual Division III Week, the Amherst College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Amherst Green Athletics are asking for your unwanted shoes.
Those shoes will be collected from April 2nd-6th and donated to a local charity called ReRun Shoes. Members of the Amherst College community can donate by putting shoes into bins set up in Keefe Center and Alumni Gym.
"We believe that Division III athletics are so important because they allow us to compete in athletics while being active members of our communities," says the flyer put out by Amherst SAAC.
Started in 2009, Rerun Shoes was created to help people in the US and in other parts of the world recycle old shoes.
They collect used and unwanted shoes through their website and fundraising events in schools and houses of worship. In addition to providing shoes (in good condition) to children and families in the neediest nations, their shoes provide opportunities to micro-businesses throughout the African continent.

Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement.
