AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College Director of Athletics Don Faulstick recently announced the hiring of Stephen Rubin as the next men's cross country and track & field head coach.
Rubin brings 25 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Pioneer Valley, including NCAA national champions at both the Division III and Division I levels to go along with several NCAA All-Americans.
"I could not be more excited to hire Steve Rubin as the next men's cross country and track & field head coach," Faulstick stated. "Steve has a wealth of knowledge and experience throughout all divisions and is a perfect fit for Amherst and our programs on many levels. I have no doubt that his experience and leadership will help elevate our cross country and track & field programs to new heights."

Prior to joining the Amherst community, Rubin served as an assistant track & field coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2012-2017. From 2007 until 2012, Rubin was the head track & field coach at Case Western Reserve and was also the Director of Strength and Conditioning. Rubin also completed stints as the head track & field coach at Florida International University (2003-2007) and Washington University – St. Louis (2001-2003) while also serving as the cross country head coach at FIU. He was also an assistant track & field coach at the University of Miami from 1992-2001 where he specialized in jumps, throws and multi-events following a one-year spell as an assistant track & field coach at San Francisco City College (1991-1992).
In addition to his abundance of coaching experience, Rubin has gained an array of experience working with USA Track and Field in various capacities including: USA Junior Elite Camp (United States Olympic Training Center Director – 1998, 1999, 2004); associate coordinator – women's elite jumps (1995-2000); combined events coaches summit (2010), and has served as a Level I School director and instructor, and a Level II instructor (1998-2004).

Since 1996, Rubin has also spoken at several track coaches association clinics in North Carolina, Florida, Missouri and Ohio, as well as at the MF Athletic All-Star Clinic in Atlantic City, N.J.
Rubin holds several certifications including Level I and Level II USA Track and Field Coaches Education certificates; is a certified strength and conditioning specialist; and is certified in First Aid and CPR. A 1991 graduate of Emory University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and political science, Rubin also completed coursework towards a master's degree in exercise physiology at the University of Miami.
